One Stroke Flat Brushes

One Stroke Flats have long bristles and arent' as thick as other flat brushes. They also have a much sharper chisel edge.

Start using these brushes straight from the package! Just dampen their bristles with water and dry with a paper towel before beginning to paint. When cleaning, it's okay to use the rake in the bottom of the Brush Basin, but be gentle.

Donna uses flat brushes for all of her stroke work. You can enlarge or reduce the size of any project by simply using a larger or smaller brush for the pattern. When deciding which brush to use, choose the larger brush for the area that feels most comfortable to you. (One painter may be comfortable with a #12 while another painter may be just as comfortable with a 3/4".)

One Stroke Scruffy Brushes

One Stroke Scruffy Brushes are ready to use out of the package. After removing the brush from the packaging, form the bristles into a fan shape by gently pulling on them and twisting the bristles in the palm of your hand. This is called "fluffing the scruff".

Scruffy brushes are often used for painting mosses, wisteria, lilacs, certain hair and fur, and for creating shading textures. They are not used with water. You should, however, dampen the brush before painting and dry it thoroughly. Also make sure to remove all excess water from the ferrule. When cleaning scruffy brushes, pounce, don't rake, the bristles in the Brush Basin.
